Personal
Dr.Akers is married and has two sons. His interests and hobbies have centered around swimming and water polo. He was a member of four USA Senior Mens National teams and high school and college All-American. He has also been active in sailboat racing and won his section in the 1992 Chicago to Mackinac Yacht Race. His sons are actively participating in Loyola High School Hockey and College Hockey.
